Wow: A Review of Nizuc Resort in Cancun
Cancun has been since I was little our natural getaway, that’s for me and for most of the people who live in southern Mexico. It’s just a few hours drive and only 1 hour flight, so of course who wouldn’t want to spend a summer week in paradise? This is a Review of Nizuc Resort.
That bring me to the point that we would spend 4-5 weeks per year in the Mayan Riviera, my mom was always against buying a time share because she wanted to have the opportunity to try new hotels and not being tied to the same old property 20 years after. Therefore, I’ve been to many hotels in Cancun!
So trust me when I say this is the best hotel in Cancun. It’s even on the top 10 Best Hotels in Mexico.
Nizuc Resort & Spa
Nizuc opened in 2013, and I started hearing all good stuff about it 2 years ago. Back in the day it used to be the Mexican Presidential Retreat, La Punta Nizuc it’s a secluded point where you just relax and forget about the world.
This property was originally purchased by the Aman Resorts and The Setai when it was originally sold in 2005. If you’re familiar with the Aman properties you know the standards of luxury and comfort they strive for. Let me tell you Nizuc it’s doing a great job since they acquired from Aman the project in 2006.
The cherry on top is it’s location. Having this paradise at just a 15 minute drive from the airport it’s pretty much unbeatable.
My Stay at Nizuc in Cancun
Everything started with a pick up in a luxurious Cadillac Escalade, where I was offered right away everything a traveler is needing when arriving: wifi, iPhone charger, cold towel, and of course Fiji water.
From the time we got to the property, I knew it was going to be a great stay. They greeted me by name with their unique “Hello from the Heart” which later I figured out every single person would touch their heart every time they make eye contact with you.
The Hotel
As soon as you walk into the property you can feel an Aman influence, so chic and modern but at the same time very mexican.
The first thing you see is this reflective pool which is beautiful, but wait until you see it at night…
Check-in was a breeze, Nizuc offers butler service who kindly introduced himself offered me a welcome drink and right away guided me to my suite.
My Ocean View Suite at Nizuc
My room was an Ocean View Suite, which was perfect for me since I was traveling solo. This one is room 129 located in the main building with easy access to everything, the best part of it was the view. With a front view of the ocean I could also see the reflective pool below.
I like the fact that beds in this room category are literally facing the ocean rather than sideways like most of the time.
This suite is huge!
Never turned on the TV but it was there…
The balcony was my favourite part, I could spend hours just sitting here reading a good book.
Let’s check out the bathroom…
Bubble bath, anyone?
Nizuc Master Suite
During my stay I was able to tour some other suite categories, which definitely engaged me to come back! You’ll judge…
The Master Suite with Plunge Pool was my overall favourite. It feels so spacious and next time hopefully I get to stay in one of these ones.
This is the living room. The bedroom is on the right side door and layout it’s pretty much the same as the room I occupied.
Nizuc Villa With Pavillion
The Presidential Suite and Villas are located in buildings a little further away from the main building, but there are Golf carts all the time to get you anywhere in the resort. Here’s where you feel the tranquility of being in paradise but at the same time steps away from a lot of fun.
The Penthouse & Garden Pool Suite
At the Penthouse you’ll have one of the best terraces in the entire resort, there are only 8 of these.
Even the Garden Pool Suite which has pretty much “no view” it’s amazing. I wouldn’t say no to this!
Food & Drinks
The very first morning all I wanted was to relax and enjoy my amazing suite. So the night before I left my breakfast order on the door. I treat myself with fresh fruit, egg benedicts, and french toast…. you can’t beat this view though!
Nizuc has a many Food & Beverage outlets, which are:
- Terra Nostra – Mediterranean Cuisine
- Indochine – Asian Fusion
- Cafe de la Playa – Casual Restaurant where breakfast buffet is served
- Ramona – Authentic Mexican Cuisine
- Ni – Peruvian Restaurant
- La Punta Grill – Adults only
- Havana Lounge – A Cigar Bar where you hang out at night
- Bar A-Kan – Perfect spot to see the sunset with a good mezcal
To be honest with you, I LOVED every single spot. Food is top notch! And there are many signature cocktails to refresh yourself while at the beach. I personally enjoyed a lot having lunch at La Punta Grill on the adult side of the resort, where you have a stunning view, and a delicious burrata!
How’s Nizuc during the Day?
There are way too many things to do in Nizuc. Of course you can enjoy the beautiful beach all day long, which due to it’s location in “La Punta Nizuc” it feels more of a natural pool because has no waves.
In the beach there are many activities you can do for free such as snorkeling, stand up paddle, and on saturdays you can do Yoga onboard a paddle board, I mean if you can….
If not you can treat yourself at the awesome Spa by ESPA which is amazing. There are 2 pools: Family pool where people gather to have drinks and fun; and the Adults pool where is the place to be to relax.
Nizuc at Night
Isn’t this beautiful?
Let’s have a tequila cocktail at Bar A-Kan before dinner as we watch a nice sunset.
You can find those fire pits on the reflective pools which make them even nicer.
After dinner people get together at the Havana Lounge, where you can have a good cigar and listen to a live cuban band while you practice those salsa steps…
There was a very nice wedding on my last evening with 150+ attendees, it was a shame I wasn’t invited!
Bottom Line
Staying at Nizuc is just simply going to a different Cancun. It has a prime location close to the airport, the beach at Punta Nizuc is one of the bests in the whole Mayan Riviera. The property overall is perfectly decorated and modern, and the staff really make the difference here.
On the cons side the only thing I think there’s room for improvement it’s the gym which seemed packed most of the time. And of course, if you’re into points there’s still not a loyalty program to earn those here, but you still get the ones from your credit card.
While it may seem pricey, because it’s not cheap, starting prices are ~ $550/night plus at least $200 – $300 daily budget for food and drinks, I still wouldn’t say is expensive. I would call it a fair price, a very good value for what you get. Compared to similar places like Maldives this is a steal.
